Black or White
My lines are straight and don’t ever cross
Either black or white, either right or wrong
Be moral, don’t lie, and don’t steal
Are dictums I lived by
I grew up strong with ethical convictions
Maybe more idealistic than most of my peers
Unwilling to bend rules and cross the line
Always the good one beyond reprimand
But are things really just black or white?
With so many cross roads, countless dilemmas
Darkness seems relative and so does light
What’s my real outlook in life?
What you represent is black
A no-no that should never ever be
Yet here I am with you, unwilling to let go
Hanging on, hanging on to dear life
You bring a kaleidoscope to my world
A bounty of passions, depths and heights
Enthralling me, so tempting and addictive
Only now have I felt really alive
So are you black or really white?
When you bring out the very best I could ever be
When you give joy and peace I have never felt
When we go together, made from the very same speck
You’re my strength, and my only weakness
You give me light, and I carry the weight
Whether black or white, is of no substance anymore
For only you bring color into my life
